Article: Not ADHD, Not Bipolar, Not Learning Disabilities – Trauma

“There are numerous signs and symptoms that let us know when our child has been traumatized. As we review them, it will become apparent that many are also part of other more commonly diagnosed problems, such as ADHD, bipolar disorder, and depression. This has become a serious problem in the fields of medicine, mental health, and education. Children are being misdiagnosed and prescribed ineffective medications that often do not work because the original diagnosis was wrong. It is my hope that with more parents learning about trauma and its impact on children’s functioning at home and at school, we will stop the misdiagnoses and use of medications that have harmed many of our children.”

  1. This is so true! And it’s why we have to get involved more when it comes to our health or our childrens health. Basically be the leader of management. Unfortunately not many individuals know what to ask the doctors. Or when going to doctors forget things. It’s always best to write them down this way you don’t forget to ask. Getting involved so your not being misdiagnosed.

    Hi:

It is a pleasure to visit your website! With all respect, I don’t agree with everything you write or post. I have been dealing with adhd and Bipolar II, every since I was a child. Many times in school I had suicidal thoughts and poor grades. In my 30’s I finally decided to get help! My father would not get me help for this disorder and insisted that there was nothing wrong with me. I now know better, and that we have a family history of this. My father has been married several time, dysfunctional and has some of the same symptoms as me. With people have really have adhd and and bipolar, certain materials in the brain are lacking, which can cause a person to go isane. I was always told that I was extremely intelligent, but wondered why my grades were so poor! Try going from a 2.0 to a 4.0! I have heard similar stories. What works for one person my not work for another. Tryleptal and adderall works wonders for me! I am glad that I finally got help because this has been very painful for me. Hearing voice with racing thoughts that don’t exist, now you tell that this not a real problem! I went to several schools even a private Christan school! Eventhough I struggled with this, I believe that having this made me a better person and who I am today! Thank you for hearing my story!
