General Program Overview

INTRODUCTION

Dr. Reggie Melrose begins by elucidating the most baffling individuals we work with, those most resistant to intervention, those who use up an inordinate amount of our time and resources as parents, educators, medical and mental health professionals. She explains the need to understand more about brain development and brain functioning in order to understand these individuals better and how to help them most effectively.

CONTENT

The introduction is followed by a succinct and interactive discussion of brain development as it relates to these individuals. How and why we misunderstand and intervene with them without long-term results becomes clear.

Details are provided regarding what we need to be doing differently and why: the most efficacious interventions, tools, strategies, and resources for these particularly challenging individuals are illustrated with case examples – all based on the latest neuroscience.

CONCLUSION

Although the training is interactive, involving audience participation from the beginning, Dr. Reggie Melrose will leave time at the end for additional questions and answers, as well as for reviewing the resources she makes available for sale.

Licensed clinical psychologist and certified childhood trauma specialist, Dr. Regalena “Reggie” Melrose is the author of the ground-breaking book, Why Students Underachieve: What Parents and Educators Can Do about It (Rowman & Littlefield, 2006). More recently, Reggie wrote an important book for parents entitled, You Can Heal Your Child: A Guide for Parents of Misdiagnosed, Stressed, Traumatized, and Otherwise Misunderstood Children (Bush Street Press, 2009). Reggie is an international speaker and California State University professor. She maintains a successful private practice as a trauma healing specialist for children, adolescents, and adults.
